Repair or replace

What are the signs my roof has a problem?

Signs of roof problems include ceiling stains, damaged attic plywood, missing or lifted shingles, loose ridge caps and cracked pipe boots. Granules may also collect in gutters.

Should I repair or replace my roof?

Roof repair depends on age, shingle condition and how widespread the damage is. Repair can suit a roof that’s sound overall; widespread wear may call for replacement.

Is a roof aged 15 to 20 years a concern?

A roof aged 15 to 20 years is worth inspecting. Repair may still work beyond 20; condition guides the choice.

How much does a new roof cost?

A new roof’s cost depends on the roof, its steepness and current material prices. TPC provides a free on-site estimate for your roof.

Can you replace a roof in winter?

TPC replaces roofs year-round. In cold weather, we follow the shingle maker’s installation instructions, which may mean waiting for a warmer day.

Roof types & materials

What roofing materials do you install?

TPC installs architectural shingles, standing-seam metal, cedar shake and copper details.

Are you GAF certified?

TPC is GAF Certified.

Metal or shingles on the coast?

For coastal roofs, shingles offer value; ask about wind ratings and warranty coverage. Standing-seam metal is long-lasting and sheds water quickly, but costs more up front.

Is cedar shake a good idea near the coast?

Cedar shake can suit some older homes. Wood needs more upkeep in a humid coastal climate.

Historic homes

How do I know if my house is in a historic district?

Check the City of Wilmington’s historic district information for your property’s location. TPC can point you to the place to check.

Can I switch to a different roofing material?

Before changing roofing materials in a Wilmington historic district or overlay, ask the City about review. Material choice also depends on performance, look and budget.

Will you get my project approved?

TPC cannot promise City approval for historic roof work. We document the roof and explain roofing options; the City decides approval.

Roof Guard & maintenance

Should I get my roof checked every year?

An annual roof inspection can find small problems, such as cracked pipe boots. TPC can explain any repairs needed.

What is Roof Guard?

Roof Guard is TPC’s paid annual roof maintenance plan, with an inspection and the small repairs listed in each tier. Compare Roof Guard plans.
